Website Positioning | Blogging Your Passion

There is no doubt that blogging is beneficial to your website positioning. Search engines like to see new content being added to your site on a regular basis and blogging is a great way to do this. But what do you blog about and how do you make it fun instead of a necessary task that you dread?

The key to making it fun is simple: tap into your passion, the same passion that drove you to start your business and to want a website. Here are few brainstorming ideas to get you into the blogging groove and keep you finding new ideas you’ll be excited to write about:

Answer the question ‘did you know…?’

You probably know tons of interesting little factoids about your field. After all, it’s what you spend most of your time doing and probably more than a little of your free time continuing to learn about. Start a list of these factoids, along with their answers. Each one is a potential blog post. You’ll be providing interesting and useful information to your visitors that accomplishes two things: gives them something to take away from their visit to your site and wins their respect for you as an authority on the subject.

Tell a story

We all love stories. It’s how we make sense of our world and our place in it. Tell a story about a time when you were fully engaged doing what you love to do regarding your passion. For example, if your passion is food, tell a story about discovering some sensational flavor combination. Put yourself back in that moment and describe how you felt. Your readers will feel it, too!

Keep it short, keep it simple, but be specific. Then tell another. And another. Blog posts, galore!

Share your tips from the trade

You’ve probably learned a few things the hard way in your business. Give your visitors a shortcut by sharing some of your hard earned knowledge. You’ll earn their appreciation and respect, and your visitors will get the feeling that you’re there to help them.

Pass it on

If you come across an interesting article or a piece of information on the web that you find particularly useful, pass it on to your readers. Write a short blog post describing your take on it and why you find it worthwhile then link to the article or web page. The writer will appreciate the link back and you’ll be doing what’s done best on the web: sharing useful information.

And remember…

Put yourself into it. Blog posts should be written in the first person, ‘I’ or ‘we’. Your readers will feel like they know your business a little better because they know you better. And chances are, that will come into play when they’re deciding who to buy from, whether they realize it or not.
