This is the fourth post in a multi-part series about website positioning.
SEO is the engine
If you think of your website as a car then SEO is the engine. It is finely tuned, complex, and requires that all parts be in good working order for the best performance. A website without SEO is a car without an engine. It stands little chance of showing up on the first page of a Google search because it has no way to get there.
Search Engine Marketing is the fuel
Search Engine Marketing (SEM) is the process of actively advertising your website. It involves a lot of different things, from blog posting to Pay Per Click advertising. It acts as the fuel for your website. If you build a website and then do nothing with it, it won’t do much for you. Google will give your website an initial score, or “page rank,” based on what you have on it. However, if the information never changes or you do nothing to tell people it’s there, Google will eventually stop paying attention to your site and its score will drop. Even the best SEO site has little chance of showing up on the first page of a Google search without marketing. Google does not like a website that never changes or lacks promotion.
In the next post I will talk briefly about why blogging is so important to page rank.
